WRESTLING INFORMATION

Maria originally came from Havana, Cuba, born to a Cuban father and a Mexican mother. Growing up in a poor household in downtown Havana, Maria and her family were for the most part forced to make a living off of the prize money of her father, the professional boxer Luis "El Huracan" Arroyo. As a girl, Maria absolutely idolized her father, and dreamed of one day following in his footsteps and going into the ring herself. 

When she became a teenager, she supplanted her family's meagre wealth as best as she could by joining a gang, peddling drugs and committing minor robberies, doing her best to keep this from her parents. Tragedy struck, however, when Maria was fifteen. Her father had refused to take a fall in a rigged fight, and ended up angering a number of gangsters who had betted against him. Her father was found the next morning after he had been ambushed in an alley, beaten to death. Heartbroken, her mother overdosed on her medication the following month...but in the process left Maria all of the money she had been saving over the years, which would give her just enough to catch the next boat out of Havana and hopefully leave Cuba for somewhere better.

And so it was that Maria left Cuba and ended up in her mother's birth country, Mexico. Although left on her own at first, Maria managed to move into the underworld circles of Guadalajara, continuing the same criminal past she had left behind in Guadalajara. Eventually, however, she found solid work at a local gym. It was here that she was introduced to the world of lucha libra, and from that point on, she was hooked. Her dreams of becoming a boxer like her father transformed into becoming a masked warrior of the ring. After convincing the gym leader to let her train there, Maria began to eagerly learn how to wrestle, and began her new career.

After several years, Maria had gone through several independent circuits around the world, fighting as "Maria Tempesta." Always one to enjoy provoking others, Maria fought as a rudo, and used devil imagery in her wrestling outfit to make herself seem like all the more of a villain to her Mexican audiences. Eventually, Maria recieved an invitation from the AFW: always one for adventure, Maria moved to Japan, and is now looking to test her skills against some of the best of the best...




SKILLS

Slams and Throws- While not the most powerful girl, Maria is hardly light either, and her frame allows her to hit lighter opponents hard with slams and throws. 
Technical Skill- Maria is a really good technician, having learned much from her time in Mexico, Japan and the United States. That being said, being the rudo that she is, she is not above breaking from technical fighting to indulge in some dirtier moves.
Strikes- As a boxer's daughter, Maria actually knows more about strikes than she lets on. Whether it's a well-aimed kick or a timely punch, Maria knows how to hit her opponents, and hit them hard.
Submissions- Maria is well trained in submission moves, but rarely uses them, preferring to out-do her opponents with raw aerial skill and hitting power rather than making them tap out. That being said, she is not above using the odd hold here and there to soften her foes up.


PREFERRED MATCH TYPES
Maria loves free-form bouts, including hardcore, no DQ and "falls count anywhere" bouts. She also enjoys tag matches, and sometimes will go for more gimmicky bouts as well, and as someone who believes in equal-opportunity domination, won't shy away from mixed bouts. She is reluctant to go for hentai matches, however.


FAVOURITE MOVES

Maria tends to go for high-flying maneuvers as well as technical moves, battering her opponent with hurricanranas, diving kicks, arm drags, suplexes, etc, not to mention just battering them with fists or elbows when need be. Occasionally she will go for straight up technical holds and submissions, but she is an hardly expert at these.

Bota del Diablo-- a downwards kick done after building momentum with a backflip.

Tempesta Lariat- a high-powered clothesline delivered at close range, done with the aim of KOing or at least briefly incapacitating her opponent.

Alacran Diabolus- her submission finisher, Maria gets her opponent face-down on the mat, interlocks her opponent's feet with one of her own, grabs of of their feet and leans back, lifting her opponent's upper body halfway off the mat as she stretches away at their leg at a painful angle.

PERSONALITY:
-Maria loves to egg people on and provoke them, hence part of the reason why she uses devil imagery in her outfit: she is the sort of person who loves playing the villain and giving people someone to boo. In the ring she will play this to the hilt, taunting her opponents relentlessly and often using dirty tactics and weapons against them. As much as she enjoys playing a villain in the ring, however, she is a fairly decent person in real life, albeit one who is a bit of a thrill-seeker.


QUIRKS AND FUN FACTS
-Despite having wrestled around the world, Maria only knows the most basic English, and is even worse at Japanese. Quite often, outside of the ring, she will find herself having severe translation issues as a result. When frustrated, she will revert back to angry Spanish
-Maria is bisexual, and while she considers herself above hentai bouts, she is not above using sexuality to distract or toy with her opponent.
-Despite her poor English, she can still read it very well, and as such is an avid comics fan. Her favourite comic book character is Daredevil (surprise surprise)
